I have just received a copy of the following email from the Cairo-based Old Crocs Veterans Rugby team from the MRFU.

It is unfortunate that I have to let you know that due to the situations in Egypt and surrounding countries we are unable to field a team for the Vets 15 a side tournament in May, in Malta.

We had been gearing up for this event for a long time but the security situation within Egypt is still tenuous, with some expats not returning after the evacuation and working schedules changed to meet the needs of the changed work environment and a lack of families within the country.

We wish you well with the tournament and hope for a return to normal next year so that we can join you for the next one.

Chris, it’s disappointing to hear that the Old Crocs won’t be taking part this year, but understandable under the current circumstances you describe.

Let’s hope the situation improves in the near future, and you will be able to travel next year!
